During the early part of Focus’ store build programme, which has seen 39 new outlets opened throughout the country since 2002, it suffered from an inconsistent level of building documentation submitted by contractors. Some failed to meet the standard required to enable store managers to maintain the building or comply with legal requirements, would therefore be rejected causing unnecessary delays during project sign-off.
Focus needed to eliminate the uncertainty caused during this often overlooked yet crucial stage of their building projects. Focus approached ASBUILT in 2003 to manage the aggregation of building documentation. All the subcontractors were informed and instructed to liaise with ASBUILT who were responsible for collecting, aggregating and preparing a single set of manuals in a standard format.
ASBUILT were involved at all stages of the project with a technical representative present at regular project meetings to report on progress.
Following approval of drafts a series of paper manuals were delivered for use in the store and CDs dispatched to Focus Head Office, the main contractor and developer for reference.
The ASBUILT service has become a routine element of all Focus’ new store building specifications.
“ASBUILT’s paper and electronic manuals present all of the information we require which is readable, accessible and complies with our legal obligations.”
